How to Choose Precisely the Best Strainers For Your Purpose?
The following is general selection criteria for strainers & filters on the basis of applications, type, flow, pressure, mesh, & standards:
- Application Purpose
- Most suitable device to protect pumps, valves, meters, heat exchangers, etc.
- Most importantly need for temporary purpose or continuous/permanent operation
- Strainer Type
- Y-Strainer – Compact, moderate flow, general application
- Basket Strainer – High flow, large debris, Ease for maintenance
- Duplex Strainer – Doesn’t shut/stop working even during cleaning

Installation & Maintenance Instructions of Strainers

- Orientation: Install horizontally with the screen pointing downward. For cone strainers, affirm the point faces the flow direction.
- Flow Direction: Forever stick with the flow arrow marked on the body.
- Support & Positioning: Provide sufficient backup to dodge responsibility or vibration.
- Steps for Flushing: Flush pipelines in the formerly initial operation to remove debris and contaminants.
- Inspection: Strainers are for temporary use and should be checked at all times.
- Pressure Monitoring: Vacate or replace when pressure drop exceeds 10 PSI.
- Cleaning Method: Remove and unfill the screen in sum, inspect for damage, and reinstall securely.
- Reinstallation: Use accurate gaskets and torque settings when reinserting into the method.
